Please join us for this intimate Crieff launch of Rodge Glass's new book, Joshua in the Sky, which is published on 5th September 2024. Rodge will be in conversation with one of Scotland's finest writers, the novelist, playwright and performer Alan Bissett. Alan has known Rodge's work for twenty years and has been involved with the development of Joshua in the Sky since its very beginnings.
Joshua dies on his birthday.
Joshua dies the day he is born.
Joshua lives for three hours.
Joshua is alive.
Rodge Glass’s nephew Joshua died the same day he was born, from a blood condition they both share. Joshua in the Sky charts the five years around Joshua’s life and death as Rodge attempts to make sense of this loss.
A family memoir and a memorial to a short life, it asks the questions: Whose life deserved to be remembered? And how?
Written with the support and cooperation of Rodge's family, this sensitive portrait is intended to raise awareness about HHT and to ensure that Joshua's short life is remembered. All profits to HHT research, and to the Fetal unit who card for Joshua.
Rodge Glass is the author of eight books including his biography Alasdair Gray: A Secretary’s Biography (Bloomsbury), which won the Somerset Maugham Award for Non-Fiction. His most recent book is Michel Faber: The Writer & His Work (Liverpool University Press), and he is Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. A chapter from Joshua in the Sky, 'On the Covenant', won the prestigious Anne Brown Prize in 2023.
