Screening of the film 'Adult Human Female'
Wed 24 Apr 2024 4:30 PM - 7:00 PM
University of Derby, DE22 1GB
Description
The AFAF branch at the University of Derby is pleased to announce the screening, followed by a discussion of the film Adult Human Female on Wednesday 24 April 2024, University of Derby, Kedleston Road Campus, 4:30pm – 7pm, room: tbc.
Nothing is more indicative of the free speech crisis in universities than the fact that no vice-chancellor, senior manager or academic dare publicly declare that they believe in the reality of biological sex. They would immediately come under attack and their jobs could be threatened. This intimidatory climate undermines the duty of universities to pursue truth without fear or favour.
How did we get here? This film is essential viewing if we want to understand the wider context. It features very moderate interviews with ten women and one man who hold concerns over the conflict of rights between women and transgender people because of legal and social developments of the last few years and the negative effects of gender self-ID on women’s spaces.
Don’t say ‘There is no debate!’ but come along, watch the film and join in a respectful discussion with the film makers: Dr Deirdre O'Neill and Professor Mike Wayne. They will participate in a panel discussion alongside the Chair of East Midlands Women, Professor Kathleen Richardson (De Montfort University).
This event is organised with support from the Derbyshire Branch of the Women’s Rights Network.
Adult Human Female has a BBFC rating of 15, so this is an adult-only event. The film showing is free, but booking is required on Ticket Tailor.
