Join us at The Old Church on the 27th, 28th, 30th of April and 1st of May for our debut production of MARIAM.
The running time of the show is two hours, with a 15 minute interval.
MARIAM is an adaptation of ‘The Tragedy of Mariam’ by Elizabeth Cary - believed to be the first play written and published by a woman in 1613 - all staged with the incorpopration and accompaniment of a live women-led rock band. MARIAM is by no means a play that fits with common ideas of how women in the past thought and behaved; the two central characters, Mariam and Salome, are outspoken, powerful, and grappling throughout with how their sex defines their position in the world.
This is a standing event, although there will be limited seating available. Matinee performances are relaxed performances and will be entirely seated.
Cutpurse Theatre is a new theatre company based in London which focuses on retelling old stories in new ways. Our main goal, in all of our work, is making adaptations and revivals that draw attention to previously ignored or marginalised history and narratives, in order to contribute to present day conversations.
