15 easy ways to boost your event revenue (without hiking ticket prices)

Rising costs are squeezing event margins, but there's more money on the table than you might think. Here are 15 easy ways to boost your event revenue, from refund protection and add-ons to tiered pricing and ticket baskets.

laptop with ticket sales and metrics

The easiest ways to boost your event revenue without raising ticket prices are to offer optional extras your buyers value (like refund protection, add-ons and donations), use smarter pricing tactics (like tiered pricing), and make it as easy as possible for buyers to check out. Many of these are features you can switch on in your Ticket Tailor dashboard in minutes.

This guide is based on a recent Ticket Tailor webinar, where MD George and Head of Customer Success Therese shared 15 tactics they see working across thousands of events. Missed it? You can watch the full revenue webinar on YouTube.

Why boost your event revenue without raising ticket prices?

In the webinar, George explained that many events are now left with margins of 10% or less once every bill is paid. What that means depends on who you are. For some, it's less profit for the business. For others, it's a smaller salary, or less money raised for a good cause.

Putting ticket prices up is the obvious fix, but buyers are price-sensitive, so there's a limit to how far that can go. The good news is there's more money on the table than you might think. The most effective revenue ideas do two things at once: they bring in more money for you, and they give your buyers something of genuine value in return.

A useful way to prioritise is effort versus impact. Start with the quick wins that make the biggest difference, but don't overlook the smaller ones either. If something only takes a couple of minutes to switch on, it's worth doing.

Revenue-driving features you can switch on today

1. Refund protection

Refund protection is an optional add-on buyers can choose at checkout (providing you enable it!), covering them if illness or travel problems stop them attending. It's managed entirely by partner XCover, so there's no admin for you, the money stays in your account, and you earn a share of every refund protection sale.

Around 23% of ticket buyers opt in (almost one in four). On a £100 ($100) order, refund protection costs around £8 ($8), and the Event Creator earns 10% of that. Across Event Creators who've switched it on, that adds up to around 0.5% more revenue overall. It also gives buyers the confidence to book earlier, which can lift ticket sales too. Currently available in the UK and US.

2. SMS and WhatsApp reminders

Buyers can opt in at checkout to get their confirmation by SMS or WhatsApp, plus a reminder 24 hours before the event. That means fewer no-shows and smoother queues on the day. Around 15% of buyers opt in.

Ticket Tailor charges a flat 10p (10c) per message, and you choose what to charge buyers. Absorb the cost, or set a price like 25p (25c) and keep the difference. Some Event Creators see up to 20% opt-in even at 50p (50c). Find out more about setting up SMS reminders.

3. Customisable booking fees

Booking and transaction fees are fully customisable on Ticket Tailor. Because Ticket Tailor charges a low flat fee, anything you set above your costs is genuine margin, not just a presentation choice.

When setting your fee, think beyond ticketing and payment processing. Your booking fee can also help cover box office admin, customer support, refund handling, and fraud and chargeback exposure. You can also set your terms so booking fees are kept when you issue a refund. For more on setting prices, read these pricing strategies for Event Creators.

4. Donations

Ticket Tailor doesn't charge any fees on donations. For charities, it's a no-brainer. But other events are getting creative too: independent UK festival 2000trees invites buyers to "buy us a beer" for putting on their favourite festival.

You can use donations to tip your team, fund next year's event or cover running costs. Set the default to zero (an opt-in) or pre-fill an amount. Either way, be clear about where the money goes.

5. Products and add-ons

Selling products alongside tickets is one of the most impactful ways to increase your average order value. Think car parking, merchandise, drinks packages, books, or VIP extras.

Offer add-ons at a range of price points so there's something for every budget. And money spent at booking is often forgotten by the time the event rolls around, which tends to lift overall spend. Need inspiration? Here are 20 ideas for event upsells and add-ons, plus tips on using VIP packages to make more profit.

6. Gift cards

Gift cards bring in new revenue you wouldn't otherwise have had, and you can design them in your own brand colours with amounts from £10 to £100 (or whatever suits you). They also:

  • Bring cash in early, which helps you cover upfront costs.
  • Reach new customers through word of mouth, with no extra marketing spend.
  • Often lead to extra spend when redeemed, as buyers top up beyond the card value.

7. Memberships and season passes

Memberships and season passes lock in your most loyal fans. Members pay upfront, so the revenue is in your account before they attend. Once bought, there's almost no admin: members get a QR code and membership code to redeem tickets or discounts. You can offer unlimited access, discounts on tickets, or discounts on products. Find out more about memberships and season passes.

Both gift cards and memberships can be sold as add-ons at checkout, or separately through your year-round Store.

8. Ethical ticket resale with Tixel and TicketSwap

If your events sell out, resale is part of the picture whether you plan for it or not. Ticket Tailor integrates with both Tixel and TicketSwap giving you control over secondary sales. When a buyer resells their ticket, a new ticket is issued automatically to the new buyer, with no admin on your side.

The bigger win is footfall. Resale keeps your event full, and full events mean more on-the-day spend on food, drink and merch. And a better atmosphere for all of your attendees.

9. Payment plans (coming soon)

Payment plans will let buyers spread the cost of their tickets over time, so higher-priced tickets stop being a barrier. When buyers can pay over time, more of them say yes. Keep an eye out, as this one is launching soon.

10. Tiered pricing

Tiered pricing means releasing tickets in waves, with prices rising as the event gets closer or as tickets sell. Early tiers reward your most loyal fans and bring cash in early. Later tiers capture more revenue as demand builds.

It isn't just for sell-out events. Labels like "early bird" or "wave one" create urgency, which encourages people to buy sooner. On Ticket Tailor, tiers can be triggered by date or by the number of tickets sold, so it runs automatically.

11. Overrides for recurring events

If you run recurring events, overrides let you change the price or availability of a single date or time slot. Charge more at peak times, open up extra capacity when it's busy, or drop prices to stay full when it's quiet. Attractions and tours use this particularly well.

12. GetYourGuide integration

Ticket Tailor's GetYourGuide integration puts your tours and attractions in front of travellers searching for things to do. It's a new marketing channel that taps into tourist demand you might otherwise struggle to reach, with listings and bookings managed in one place.

Event page, conversion and comms

13. Design an event page that sells

First impressions sell tickets. A strong header, your brand colours and a clear description all build trust. Then look at your checkout through your buyer's eyes: can you cut any steps or questions? Every one you remove can lift conversion.

If you have your own website, embed the ticket widget so buyers never leave your site. Jazzkeller, an independent jazz club in Frankfurt, told Ticket Tailor that creating a premium, branded ticketing experience themselves was a game-changer for presenting their events professionally. 14. Pixel tracking

Pixel tracking follows the buyer journey from ad to purchase, showing which campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or Google actually drive ticket sales. It also lets you retarget people who visited your event page but didn't buy, and helps ad platforms learn who's most likely to check out. If you spend money on ads, this is a must.

15. Ticket baskets (multi-checkout)

Ticket baskets let buyers add tickets for several of your events to one basket and pay once. One set of details, one payment, one confirmation email. That means less friction, fewer abandoned carts and bigger orders. Once Event Creator has seen an 151% increase in average order value since turning on multi-checkout! If there's even a slim chance buyers will want more than one of your events, it's worth switching on.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add these features to an event that's already on sale?

Yes. You can add, remove or edit these features at any time, even if your event is already published and selling tickets. If you need a hand, Ticket Tailor's 24/7 support team can help.

Do I have to activate ticket resale, or does it happen automatically?

You need to activate Tixel or TicketSwap from your settings. Once it's on, resale runs automatically: buyers list their tickets, and new tickets are issued to the new buyer with no admin for you.

Can I offer a loyalty scheme for repeat customers?

Yes, with memberships. You can set a membership to give free entry, discounted tickets or discounts on products, depending on how you want to reward your regulars.

Where do I set up donations?

Donations are added in your event setup, not as a ticket type. You can customise the heading and description to explain where the money is going.

Is Refund Protection available for charities?

Yes. Refund Protection is available for charities and not-for-profits in the UK and US, as well as companies. Ticket buyers choose whether to add it at checkout, and you keep a share of the cost as commission, while XCover handles any claims and refunds.
