Building back bolder: learning for life in post-pandemic Britain. Has the Government got it wrong on adult education?

Building back bolder: learning for life in post-pandemic Britain. Has the Government got it wrong on adult education?

Wed 10 Mar 2021 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM GMT

Online, Zoom

Description

This one-hour free webinar will be chaired by the former Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow.

It comes as the Centenary Commission on Adult Education launches a new campaign to put learning at the heart of post-pandemic Britain: its members believe lifelong learning is essential, now more than ever, to the social and cultural fabric of our nation, to our connection with one another and to the health of our economy.

The session will bring together key thinkers on education to debate the big questions about how education can feed our national regeneration. Skills for jobs; or education for life?

Speakers will include:

  • Lord Karan Bilimoria, President of the Confederation of British Industry.
  • Robert Halfon, MP, Chair of the House of Commons Education Committee.
  • Sir Alan Tuckett, Vice Chair of the Centenary Commission on Adult Education and former Chief Executive of the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education.
  • Baroness (Alison) Wolf, Sir Roy Griffiths Professor of Public Sector Management, Kings College, London; advisor to the Prime Minister on Further Education policy .
