Big love to everyone who came to the inaugural Southside Pride Party at Rum Shack, and the lovely Cùrlach for being such excellent guests. Was so cool to see The Rum Shack sold out for Pride weekend. Due to the demand and the good feelings we got from it all we've decided to do more!

Our next one will be Saturday 2nd September, 9pm - 1am. We've invited Màs Allà along for the ride this time.

Queer History of Dance Music

Starting out as a radio show in 2018, Queer History have been exploring the co-evolution of the LGBTQI+ rights movement and club culture for the last 5 years. Currently Clyde Built Radio residents, their shows have been deep-diving into the key genres, time periods, locations and artists who have shaped dance music, club culture, and LGBTQ acceptance. Their live sets similarly explore all corners of dance music - and its queer roots - refusing to be contained by genre, trends or geography.

This time round, to compliment German Colombian DJ guest mas alla, the emphasis here will be on latin inflected grooves. The term 'latin' music encompasses a lot (the roots of Latin music are a combination of African, European and indigenous music within Latin America, from Cumbia to Salsa to Merengue to everything in between) but the common thread running through all these genres and sounds is rhythmic complexity; layers of interlocking, syncopated percussion. The
influence of these grooves has seeped into every corner of dance music and they'll be tracing the lineage of these sounds through soul, funk, R&B, disco, house and beyond.

Check out a couple of their favourite radio shows, interviews and mixes to get you in the mooood....

MÀS ALLÀ

más allá is a German-Colombian DJ who explores Latin American rhythms through music. Their selections range across genres, mixing poli-rhythmic electronic music with traditional sounds - all tied together through a delicate focus on corporal basslines. Their sets create immersive percussive soundscapes, merging latin rhythms in unexpected ways that are sure to get you grooving.

On their monthly show 'Fluidity' on Radio Buena Vida spreads and amplifies Latin American sounds and productions. They have also been featured on Clyde Built Radio, Noods and NTS in the last year.

We first played alongside them last year at one of the infamous Hot Towel parties at McNeils .. and been dying to share a line up with them since.
