Book Launch: Routledge Handbook of the Northern Ireland Conflict and Peace, with Laura McAtackney and Máirtín Ó Catháin

The Routledge Handbook of the Northern Ireland Conflict and Peace, edited by Laura McAtackney and Máirtín Ó Catháin, is the first multi-disciplinary Handbook that explores many of the facets of conflict in the North from partition to present day. With an extended introduction, background preface and 45 chapters, this collection takes an expansive view on what constituted the policies, strategies, experiences and memories of the North over an extended and deeply contested period of time. The handbook includes insights into enduring controversies such as collusion and paramilitary strategy through to structural issues of planning and policing reform with a strong interest in gender and class. Contributors to the launch will include their insights into journalism, education in Long Kesh / Maze prison and the varying experiences of Belfast and Derry during the conflict through to their reflections on the present day. The launch will include a panel discussion that will focus on considering what happens next in a context of evolving post-Brexit, legacy-orientated Hiberno-British relations. With special guest speaker, Professor Roisín Higgins (Maynooth University).
