Description
TOAST Live
TOAST is about really good poetry. An evening of spoken word and live performance, TOAST is Norfolk’s biggest regular poetry night. We’re an artist-led organisation who find the best poets working right now and bring them to Norwich. At TOAST you will laugh, cry and find something you like (even if you don’t think you like poetry). Funny, emotional and entertaining, this is a great night out for everyone.
In April 2023, our headliners have both defined parts of UK poetry in different and wonderful ways. Mimi Khalvati was born in Tehran, spent most of her life in London, and her 9 collections from Carcanet Press (which have been nominated and won several major prizes) have changed the way a whole generation of poets write. Her work is gentle in how it holds difficult subjects, and The Meanest Flower in one of our favourite collections. John Osborne has lived in Norwich for years. We love his work, his UK tours, and the way he tells stories that are at once heartbreaking and hilarious. His books and shows live very close to our TOAST hearts, in particular his new book ‘A Supermarket Love Story’ makes us feel warm and fuzzy inside. They will be supported by three of the best emerging and new poets in Norwich.
We are thrilled to announce a THIRD special headliner. Eduardo C. Corral will be joining us in April: his work has earned him fellowships and prizes in the U.S and he's bringing poems from his latest collection 'Guillotine' to the U.K. this Spring, and we've convinced him to swing East for an evening!
TOAST is produced by Daisy Henwood and hosted by the award winning poet, Lewis Buxton.
