Description
TOAST Live
TOAST is about really good poetry. An evening of spoken word and live performance, TOAST is Norfolk’s biggest regular poetry night. We’re an artist-led organisation who find the best poets working right now and bring them to Norwich. At TOAST you will laugh, cry and find something you like (even if you don’t think you like poetry). Funny, emotional and entertaining, this is a great night out for everyone.
In June 2023, our headliners are bringing all the summer joy! First up, we have poet, playwright and novelist, Cecilia Knapp! We've seen Cecilia move from one-person shows, devastatingly beautiful reflections on grief and growing up, to her first novel 'Little Boxes' and then last year her astounding debut poetry collection 'Peach Pig'. When she was Young People's Laureate for London, we saw her make new work as well as create opportunities for other people. This is all the things we love at TOAST.
We’re also so pleased to be bringing Toby Campion back for his second TOAST appearance. Toby has been a staple of the poetry community for years: a former UK Slam Champion, his first short-collection ‘Through Your Blood’ made us feel so many feelings. Recently, we’ve seen his work in bath magg and 100 Queer Poems, take on a new, darkly funny, surreal edge, where he notes ‘aunties/you found your good men in supermarkets’ and then begs them to ‘tell me how you got them’. We’re so stoked to have Toby back after he performed at one of our first ever TOAST events.
TOAST is produced by Daisy Henwood and hosted by the award winning poet, Lewis Buxton.
