The 7 best pop-culture Halloween event themes for 2024

What is Halloween, really, if it’s not a chance to celebrate the latest pop-culture happenings via ludicrous fancy-dress? As an event creator, it’s your job to tap into such moments by putting on themed parties that give attendees full vent to their latest obsessions. Be it that moment between Penelope and Colin on the latest series of Bridgerton (see: carriage scene, season three, episode four). Or the beyond-exciting reboot of an iconic movie classic (one word: Beetlejuice 🙌). 

Without further ado, here’s our round-up of Halloween event themes for 2024 – drawing on some of the biggest pop-culture moments from this year.

Bridgerton’s Penelope & Colin 

This year, Bridgerton returned for its third season, which was devoured by fans across the globe. In fact, the latest instalment of the hit series recorded the show’s biggest opening weekend to date – with the first half alone racking up 165.2 million hours of viewing time worldwide.

There were plenty of heart-fluttering storylines to get stuck into in this latest season. But one of the most exciting and satisfying had to be the will-they-won’t-they plot between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton. Which, naturally, culminated in some iconic scenes of romance and raunch. We reckon this year’s Bridgerton Halloween theme could focus on these two characters alone – think green empire-line gowns for the Pens, and puff-sleeved shirts and sideburns for the Colins. 

Beyonce-meets-cowboycore

March 2024 saw Beyonce release her first ever Country album, Cowboy Carter. The build-up to the album was intense and sparked much speculation. (Why is Beyonce wearing a cowboy hat at the Grammys… What could this mean?!). Of course, it meant that Beyonce was on a mission to create an album that “redefines and rebuilds what is Country and Americana, and who gets to be included”. EPIC. 

Naturally, then, this Halloween is the perfect opportunity to celebrate all things Country – whether you choose to make your theme Beyonce-specific or broader (check out Pharell Williams’ Louis Vuitton A/W 2024 cowboy-inspired collection). There’s so much scope to get creative here. Gone are the tired old cowboy fancy dress themes of days gone-by. Thanks to the likes of Beyonce and Pharell, Cowboy 2.0 is bolder, more culturally significant, and more luxe-fashion than anyone could have imagined.  

Yellowstone

Speaking of cowboycore – the hit series Yellowstone will be airing its final ever series in November 2024, and so is bound to be on fans’ minds this Halloween. Time to embrace all things Ranch in the style of glamorous Beth Dutton and her cowboy-hat wielding family (not to mention her rugged other half, Rip Wheeler).

There’s much costume inspiration here – with the hit series deftly blending worlds old and new to create a vision of Americana that feels both relevant and nostalgic. Oversized belt-buckles at the ready, fans of the show are going to love this theme.

Beetlejuice

When it comes to things that are just quintessentially Halloween, Tim Burton’s classic 1988 movie, Beetlejuice has to be pretty high up there. This quirky, tongue-in-cheek tale of ghosts and all things ghoulish is characterised by incredible, mind-bending costume and set design – hence why it’s provided such brilliant fodder for Halloween fanatics over the past few decades. 

And now, the movie has experienced a highly-anticipated reboot, with the 2024 film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice boasting an all-star cast, including Beetlejuice originals Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder. What could be a more perfectly pop-culture Halloween theme for 2024, really?

Deadpool & Wolverine 

Fans of Marvel movies were no doubt thrilled about the release of the new Deadpool & Wolverine movie, out in July this year. The movie sees these two iconic comic-strip characters come together to defeat a common enemy, and is truly a glorious celebration of all that Marvel is about. 

In fact, men on the set of the movie are reported to have actually cried when they saw Hugh Jackman in the famous yellow Wolverine suit for the first time. (He’d never worn the yellow suit in any previous movies – which some have said is like Superman never having worn the Superman suit in Superman films!). A cult-classic moment if ever there was one, and perfect inspo for comic-loving fancy-dressers everywhere.

Wicked feat. Ariana Grande

Ariane Grande as Glinda from Wicked. Need we say more? We are, of course, talking about the 2024 film adaptation of the wildly popular theatre musical and The Wizard of Oz spin-off, which focuses on some of the original movie’s most infamous characters – namely, the Wicked Witch of the West. 

Ariane Grande’s role as Glinda, the Wicked Witch of the West’s unlikely friend, is set to be just one of the many dazzling things about this movie. Not least Cynthia Erivo’s portrayal of Elphaba (the Witch herself), and an imagination-fuelled backdrop that brings the world of Oz to life like never before.

Wednesday Addams

Netflix’s Wednesday has become one of the most watched shows on the streaming platform – and is set to drop a brand new season at the end of 2024. 

The dark and witty Addams Family spinoff is directed by Tim Burton and has reaped a huge amount of praise since its release a few years ago. Part horror story, part coming-of-age tale, Burton’s take on the classic ‘90s movie features an ensemble cast and much, much Halloween-costume inspiration. As fans gear up for the new series drop, we reckon Halloween 2024 is the perfect time to get in on the pasty-skinned, black-pigtailed action.
