8 pop-culture Halloween event themes for 2022
If you’re about to roll up your sleeves and organise your Big Halloween Event ‘22 – look no further for inspiration.
It’s been quite the year, so far. There’ve been some awesome moments (finally getting to find out what happened to Hopper – YES). Some pretty rubbish ones (inflation rises, take a break we beg of you!). And some downright bizarre ones that, frankly, we’re still scratching our heads at. Among the good, the bad and the ugly, there’ve been some fantastic pop-culture happenings that provide pitch-perfect fodder for this year’s Halloween. So if you’re about to roll up your sleeves and organise your Big Halloween Event ‘22 – look no further for inspiration. (BTW, if you’re looking for a great, cheaper alternative to Eventbrite for your ticketing needs this scary season, we’ve got you covered there, too 😌).
Stranger Things
Ok so you’re probably not going to be the only one going with this theme – the latest Stranger Things season did become the second title to ever cross one billion hours viewed on Netflix, after all. But who cares?! The instant cult classic, which follows a group of young friends in 1980s Indiana as they grapple with supernatural forces, provides more inspo for Halloween costumes than anything from the last 10 years put together. Fact. PS. Why not take inspiration from Stranger Things’ electronic, synth 80s soundtrack for your playlist?
Scream
Scream is quintessentially ‘Halloween’, and the 90s horror classic has just been brought back to life with a new release featuring both new and old faces. Things don’t get much more scary-movie-iconic than that white scream mask, even 25 years on from the film’s original release date. Great choice for a Halloween event, we say – especially if it’s going to be attended by nostalgic millennials with a penchant for minimal effort costumes.
Louis Theroux
Louis Theroux fan clubs are nothing new – but since the acclaimed documentary maker’s two-decade-old rap went viral on TikTok earlier this year, the world has spun into an even more fervent Theroux frenzy. The original ‘My Money Don’t Jiggle Jiggle’ YouTube video now has over 17.5 millions views, and the catchy remix (created by Duke & Jones) has been splashed all over social media stories and reels for months. Could there be anything more pop-culture than this? Louis Theroux themed Halloween parties – we are so here for you!
Better Call Saul (or Breaking Bad)
Breaking Bad prequel, Better Call Saul returned to our screens this year after a series of delays, and the season is reaching fever pitch as it inches closer to the crossover into Walter White and Jesse Pinkman territory. With a plethora of incredible characters to draw on, we think Vince Gillinghan’s world of lawyers, cartels and ‘chemistry’ provide the perfect pop culture fodder for Halloween. Imagine the chemical-inspired smoking cocktails you could serve up!
The Lord of the Rings
The Lord of the Rings never fails to stir the imagination – and now it’s hitting the mainstream once more with the release of the highly anticipated TV series: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Now’s the perfect time to revive one of the most epic fantasy sagas of all time with an atmospheric Halloween event filled with hobbits, orcs, elves and other mythical creatures from Middle-earth. Serving food and drinks? Take this Lord of the Rings theme to the next level and serve up 'ale from the green dragon' and 'Beorn’s honey cake'.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
The Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars series earned its place as the world’s most in-demand new TV show of the second quarter of 2022. The mini series, which was created for the Disney+ channel and consists of six episodes, is set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and follows The Jedi Master (Ewan McGregor, of course) deal with downfall of his one-time friend and apprentice, Anakin Skywalker. Needless to say, Star Wars fans are sure to flock to any Obi-themed Halloween events this year – bring on the Jedi robes and impressive beards. Lightsabers optional.
Euphoria
Euphoria is the hit American TV series that took the world by storm back in 2019, returning for a second, highly-anticipated series in 2022 which accrued no less than 16.3 million viewers. One for the Gen Z-ers, this gritty, humorous and genre-bending show is full-to-the-brim with vibrant characters that each seem to have garnered their own cult following IRL. The world of Euphoria has become the subject of many a meme, too, making it the perfect young person’s pop-culture Halloween event theme for 2022.
The Sandman
The Sandman is a new, wildly popular Netflix series based on the 1989-1996 comic books written by Neil Gaiman and published by DC comics. The series takes place in a feverish dreamscape world where nothing is what it seems; its dark undercurrent providing just the right amount of edge for Halloween. We’re sure tickets will sell out fast when comic book fans get wind of this retro but totally ‘22 pop culture theme.
